Fydae Minos, known as the planet of 7,000 seas, has one large continent and no major oceans. Instead, there are thousands seas and millions of lakes dotting the otherwise unbroken plains. The climate and geography of the planet are ideal for growing grain and not much else. Frequent precipitation in the growing seasons and short (but brutal) winters are typical across the entire surface. This planet has been inhabited by humans and farmed intensively for thousands of years. Great roving beasts that once dominated this planet are now hitched to plows and worked to exhaustion. All predatory species such as the Cabre Dog have long since been exterminated. In every since of the word, this planet has been domesticated.
While many millions of tons are exported from this planet daily, little is needed from the outside. Imports are limited to specialized equipment and Imperial adepts. Native Fyadein’s are suspicious of anyone they don’t know and any thing they don’t understand. This, of course, limits their experience considerably. Neighbors are commonly tens of miles away, and often many generations will never travel further than that. This has led to many diverse dialects and cultures as thousands of clans and farm cooperatives have developed in isolation.
The exception to this lifestyle is Minos City. Although certainly not a metropolis by any standard, this city of 5 million boasts a modest starport and has the accompanying bars, hotels, brothels, markets, and so forth that off-worlders expect. Naturally, the rural folk don’t trust the city or it’s inhabitants. And, in turn, the city dwellers don’t particularly like to venture beyond city limits.
As with each planet in the Fydae system, Fydae Minos has issues with piracy in it’s outer system. It’s not rare for these groups to act as highway robbers – demanding tribute from those ships they can easily bully and looting those they can overpower. Orbital platforms defend the planet and it’s visitors from the raiders. Most merchant vessels are escorted; those that go alone risk loosing everything.
